List of Links

So, this week ... has not been the most fun week of my life. My kids are sick of me, I'm sick of me-as-Mom, Carl's never around (I'm thankful he has a job! Really I am!) because of work, and to top everything off, I stabbed myself right under the thumbnail with a peach pit (the sharp ends of those things are really really sharp) Tuesday, and by Wednesday night the whole thumb had swollen up, and I spent all day Thursday with my right hand practically useless.

I am right-handed.

So, yeah. Friday! WHEE! So glad to see this week ending. Hello, beautiful weekend!

And some links:

I know the Olympics are done, but I still thought this editorial was a sweet wrap-up of the whole thing.

NBC may claim its latest reality show is meant to show respect to the military, but I find it absolutely disgusting. I am so glad I'm not alone in this opinion. They may not intend it as a glorification of war, but it is nothing but a mockery of the real sacrifices soldiers make every day.

In happier entertainment news, Lando Calrissian is coming to NCIS! Do you suppose he'll wear a cape? I so want him to wear a cape.

This new version of Anna Karenina looks ... either interesting or terrible, I'm not yet sure which. Given its casting of Keira Knightley as Anna, I'm leaning toward terrible.

This is an interesting take on Jane Austen (and thankfully NOT so blatantly 21st century as Keira Knightley's take on Elizabeth Bennet). I don't agree with all the author's points, but I do appreciate her reminder that Jane stood for Love, not Romance, which is something a great many readers (and watchers) of her stories fail to grasp.

And finally, this article on the new road of publishing, and what the future might look like, is great. Well worth the read if you are interested in publishing traditional OR indie.

I hope you all have a happy weekend, and that none of you stab yourselves under the nails with a peach pit. Or anything, for that matter.

  2. Ow ow ow ow!! That just makes me cringe! I haven't done my peaches yet this year, and sheesh, now you've scared me. I'll be careful, I promise. Ow!
And "Austen is about love, not romance" - hmm. Very good point; I'll have to muse on that. I think she's also about having a good life and financial security to go with the love...
