When you all need a break from the rain dances you'll be doing in your back yards, I've found some fun links for you to peruse. Just because I care!
- This post is from March, but the message is timeless. Love it.
- I had some serious self-confidence issues in my life as a result of being told I was nothing special as a kid, but I agree that we've gone way overboard in the other direction at this point in time, and this article was a great take on it, I thought.
- I found this quote on an old blog post from MY old personal blog (don't bother reading most of the other posts; they're very navel-gazing), and was reminded that I still love it. Truth and wisdom, right there!
- This book review made me want to re-read Fly by Night. A book about the power of words - the sort of thing I dream of someday writing when my craft is more honed than it is right now!
- When hunting for fresh bedtime reading for my littles, I came across this list. Very helpful.
- This was just about the most exciting thing I've seen in ages. Back to Star Wars basics? YES PLEASE. And then this article, too, which gives a bit more insight into Leia's role? YESYESYESYES. All my Star Wars nerdiness rising back to the surface.
It is breaking my heart not to be at Comic-Con this weekend (maybe next year!!!) (Yeah right), but I'm trying to distract myself by working hard on short story edits, more short story outlines (my goal is to be able to publish five in a collection, and one more as a bonus companion to my seperately-published novella), working on Grace's quilt, and trying not to get overheated outside while my kids play in the kiddie pool. Oh yes, and editing the photos from my MIL's wedding, because they're not going to get any less intimidating over time.
I hope your weekend is full of bliss!
I hope you get rain soon!
ReplyDeleteWe've been baked and arid until this Wednesday when the rain finally started. It's been a steady rain for two days, and I'm so thankful. (Maybe my lawn and garden will recover.) And the farms will get the water they need. :)
I woke up at 5:30 this morning to the patter-patter of raindrops tapping at my window screen, and it's been a fairly steady downpour ever since. Hurrah!
DeleteRain should come soon. I hope the rain comes. I dislike when the weather man says it's going to rain or being sunny and it doesn't.
ReplyDeleteI've posted blog of the month and here it is: http://leaveittolivia.blogspot.com/2012/07/blog-of-month-e-louise-bates.html. I hope you like it.
Thank you so much!
DeleteThe predicted weather for here was sun and possibly a few scattered thunderstorms, but thank goodness they got it wrong - it's been raining since 5:30 this morning and shows no signs of stopping!
That article on Success is SO good. I kept wanting to jump up and shout "Yes, yes!".
ReplyDelete“In this world, an ordinary life has become synonymous with a meaningless life.”
Yuuuuup. This is so very sad. I have to admit I struggle with it a little, feeling pressure to have something amazing to tell people when they ask what I've been doing lately. Or those people who ask me if I went to college... when I start explaining that I AUDITED some online classes, their eyes glaze over and they look away. Yeah, insignificant me, with no degree in anything.
Silly, silly, silly.
THAT'S what I loved about the article - it didn't say "you aren't special," but rather "since when did we start equating special with material success?" YES. Life is so much more than the "rewards" of worldly success.
DeleteI read that article and man, does it have a strong message.
