I see also that I have picked up a few new followers - welcome to all of you! I'm afraid real life has been creeping into my writing time lately (we are potty-training our youngest, which means I pretty well collapse into bed by 9:00 at night and don't think or stir until the littles wake me up the next morning, plus we are preparing for a week-long excursion to my parents' house while my husband travels to Chicago to visit schools), but I hope soon to get back to writing semi-interesting posts, as well as getting back into my actual MS writing.
In the meantime, I could use some opinions from you all. We are currently reading through the Winnie-the-Pooh stories at bedtime. What would you recommend for when we are finished with them? The girls are three-and-a-half and (nearly) two. Oh, and something with plenty of pictures is a must - we thought about The Wind in the Willows, but my edition has very few illustrations (though the ones it has are beautiful).
So, what would you suggest for good longer, read-over-a-period-of-weeks, bedtime stories with lots of fun illustrations for littles?
My pleasure! :)
ReplyDeleteHm, I can't think of any chapter-like books for kids that age--at least, not that I've read to mine. My kids are eight and six and only this year did I start reading them chapter books (for older kids, with very few pictures, though) at bedtime. My son's been reading them all year for school.
There are a few picture books that are parts of series that my kids have really enjoyed. At your kids' ages, you could probably read them in two nights instead of one night, or at least have books that are about the same characters. Some of the ones my kids have really loved are the Knuffle Bunny books by Mo Willems (and really, most books by Mo Willems!), the Ladybug Girl books by Jacky Davis and David Soman, and of course the Berenstain Bear books and the Little Critter books. The Berenstain Bear books in particular are longer and have some great lessons on them. (Often, I just find new books by going to my library and browsing to see what I think might interest them--and if they're with me, they browse to see what might interest them.)
Ooh, I hadn't thought of the Berenstain Bear books, but those would be good, too. We might be able to read one in two nights, which would work, and they are such fun tales. I'll have to see what our library has; the ones my sister and I grew up reading are still at my parents' house!
ReplyDeleteI'll look into the other books you mentioned, too. Thanks for the tips!
There are so many good picture books out there...hmmm. It's always fun to get a compilation of Mother Goose stories. We also like classics like Three Bears, and newer ones like Pinkalicious. And Curious George books are so fun too.

I hadn't even thought of some of the classic fairy tales. Our library does have some beautifully illustrated ones! We started reading the Curious George books a little while ago, but it hadn't occurred to me to use them as bedtime stories. This is great, I'm seeing all sorts of options here!
